Spring is Coming...

...Both outside as well as inside of us, and those of you who attend my class regularly will constantly hear me preach about the cycle of the seasons.

Spring is certainly on its way, though it's not quite here just yet. I describe the time of the season we're in to equal to lying in bed at 6 A.M with the alarm going off: You're 'awake', though you will probably thrash around in your sheets in anger and hit the snooze five or six times. The world is calling you to awake from your deep winter sleep, you're just not quite ready to rise and shine yet.

Externally, the movement from Winter into Spring is an upward, rising motion. Similarly, we experience the same movement energetically within our own bodies. Energy is 'rising' within us, therefore there is a tendency to feel a lot more dizzy and lightheaded at this time, even more so than usual.

Many students coincidentally enough have experienced a lot more dizziness than usual over the past week or two. Take comfort in knowing you're body is reacting quite naturally to the cycle of the seasons.

In order to ease the transition into our beloved season of Spring, the season of 'New Beginnings', many find it helpful to participate in some sort of fast or cleanse to jump start their bodies. One doesn't necessarily need to 'starve' themselves in order to cleanse. A good practice of Spring cleaning is to start eliminating acidic products from your diet; ex: caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, meat, dairy, salt, sugar, etc; and begin to replace your diet with more alkalizing products such as: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, etc.

Conscience diet coupled with your consistent yoga practice will help you feel energized and alive as we move closer and closer into the days of longer sunshine. And if the days and nights are become lighter, then we should aspire to become the same.
